Calling all Android users

Calling all Android users

Friederike

At Fiit, we’re on a mission to keep everybody moving. With one simple app.

Thanks to ongoing feedback from our amazing members, we’re able to build an app that we really believe in. An app that introduces new genre-defining fitness features.

But to actually reach everyone, we have to include the remaining 50% of us who aren’t on iOS.

And that’s where Android comes in.

My journey as an Android developer for Fiit

I joined Fiit in February 2019. At the time, I was the first (and only) recruit for the Android team so I had my hands full — especially with ever increasing demand for the Android app.

As with most apps, Fiit decided to launch on iOS as it’s much faster and simpler to develop on. In fact, estimates put development time at 30–40% longer for Android than iOS.

Unlike iOS, Android apps need to adapt to many different devices with a wide range of screen sizes. As the iOS developers at Fiit have had a two year head start, my team (now standing at three) have had to prioritise key features to be able to create the very first version of Fiit for Android.

Developing the first version of the app

We know the first Android release will be more basic than the offering on iOS, but by keeping it simple we’ll also ensure that it’s a high quality app.

For us, it’s all about creating a slick, stable and user-friendly experience for our members.

So while it may not have all the bells and whistles that iOS has straight away, you’ll be able to work out with your favourite trainers, take classes on demand and get stuck into our 14+ training plans.

And we’re working hard to bring you the rest soon.

Get involved

We’re not just here to keep you informed. We’re also here to work with you. To collaborate and put your feedback to good use.

If you want to become a beta tester prior to the release of Fiit on Android, you can sign up to our waiting list. As with iOS, the updates that follow will then be guided by you. By your feedback. By your experience based on your chosen Android device.  And by the features you love and the ones you want us to develop.

With your help, we’ll create a better app, faster. So share your thoughts with us on Facebook or Instagram (#HelpFriederike) and stay tuned for our next progress report!
