We love meeting members and hearing how Fiit has made a difference to their lives! So we were super excited to catch up with Fiit power user — Fearne Cotton — to chat about her fitness journey, how she juggles exercise with being a mum and busy career, and her goals as a Fiit Ambassador.
Fiit: Has exercise always been part of your life?
Fearne: Absolutely. I started dancing when I was 5 years old and continued through my teens. It was quite competitive — in a good way — and made me realise how important exercise and flexibility is. I started running and going to the gym when I was 18, and discovered yoga about 8 years ago. It took me a couple of years to get into yoga but I love it now.
Fiit: Why is exercise important to you?
Fearne: For me, exercise is all about feeling good. Even squeezing in a 20 minute workout to my day makes a huge difference. My body feels energised and stretched, and I feel happier. The high at the end is the best!
Exercise is also my “me-time”. Being a mum and with my busy work schedule, I rarely get time to myself. But I think it’s really important that we make space to take care of ourselves — for our mental and physical health. When I exercise, it’s like time doesn’t exist and I can focus on me.
Fiit: What does your exercise routine look like?
Fearne: I try to carve out 20 minutes every other day, usually first thing in the morning. At 6.30am my husband will be in the kitchen making breakfast with the kids, and I’ll go into the living room to do my workout. By 7am it’s all done and I’m set up for the day.
I like to mix it up. I love fast-paced cardio classes followed by yoga. I’ve been doing Adrienne’s HIIT classes, and cardio circuits with Chessie, Steph and Lilly. I love Cat’s yoga classes and also Richie’s mobility flows. My husband does them too! I still go running and to my local yoga class when I have time.
Fiit: Favourite workout music?
Fearne: I love full on, thrashing tunes to get me pumped — something by the Foo Fighters or Beastie Boys. I quite like a bit of pop like Rihanna, and you may find the odd rogue house song in my workout playlist. Generally it’s rock and hiphop that get me moving.
Fiit: How has exercise changed after becoming a parent?
Fearne: Obviously finding time to exercise is harder with young children. My whole life has changed and my children’s needs are my priority. If I want to go out for a run, mum will come over to look after the kids. Since having kids I probably appreciate my workouts even more. I schedule them in and they are truly time for me.
Fiit: Why did you start using Fiit?
Fearne: I was doing some online workouts but they felt a bit samey. I love the variety of classes and trainers with Fiit, so I can get my cardio, strength training and yoga fix in one place, and without leaving my home! The convenience is perfect for my hectic schedule.
Fiit: What do you love most?
Fearne: There are so many classes. I haven’t taken any classes more than twice, so I never get bored. I’ve also been able to try new things, like Pilates. Fiit just makes it really easy for me to exercise. I don’t have to look at class schedules or get someone to look after the kids. I can even do it in my PJs!
With the Fiit device I can see my efforts tracked on screen. It’s fascinating to see my heart rate changing, and scoring Fiit Points is super motivating. It definitely pushes you harder — I’ve discovered muscles I didn’t know I had! I don’t think there’s anywhere else with so many fitness experts on one platform.
Fiit: Have you signed up to a Fiit Plan?
Fearne: Yes, I’m doing SuperFiit as I wanted a mix of classes from all 3 Fiit studios. I’m not aiming to get ripped but I want more energy, core strength, flexibility.
Fiit: What are your goals as an ambassador?
I want to help parents, or anyone with a hectic lifestyle, make exercise an easy, effortless and fun part of their week. I know how amazing I feel after exercise. Even on the days I feel tired, I remember that feeling to get me onto the mat. Everyone can make time for exercise. It is possible. And it’s important.
Who’s your biggest inspiration in the sporting world?
I love watching the Olympics, especially the gymnastics. Usain Bolt would be one of my life icons — I love his whole vibe about life!
